My underlying interest has always been the body, either the experience of being inside it or trying to escape it. Growing up within the confines of an artistically malnourished family, I turned to the early internet for visual stimulation. It was within the four walls of my bedroom and an infinite landscape of the World Wide Web, where I found myself most drawn to a sense of self. Grabbing pieces of 8 ½ x 11in computer paper from the printer feed, I drew hundreds of girls while imagining stories about them. With every persona I dreamt up, a re-imagined identity reflected back.
Today, I create paintings, drawings, sculptures, and digital forms of artwork that blend the figuration with an exploration of abstraction that highlight both the vulnerability and resilience of the human body. My practice involves a dissection of the female form through digital lenses. I mix media to find the perfect recipe for art making that keeps my soul nourished and my brain learning new techniques. Whether it’s bending bodies in 3D environments, warping portraits of past lovers, or conjuring avatars in oil paint, I’m interested in the boundaries between the digital and physical self. and how media can be shaped, molded, and help us transcend into enlightened versions of being.
